Veterinary Dermatology: Back to Basics I was studying and updating some materials on veterinary dermatology and I came across this figure. I absolutely love well-designed educational visuals like this one🤩 Dr. Karen Trainor, DVM, MS, DACVP I was thrilled to discover that you were one of the authors of this paper. Loved it! 🔬Just a quick reminder: the epidermis is comprised of 4 layers 1. Stratum corneum 2. Stratum granulosum 3. Stratum spinosum 4. Stratum basale Ref: Karen Trainor; Brian Palmeiro. Husband, father, veterinarian. My goal is simple, to always have a best medicine first mentality. As a veterinary professional, I carry a huge responsibility. I am my patient’s advocate, their voice, their protector.
Got Pevention? This is an obvious flea infestation. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take this many fleas to make an animal miserable! For some, just a couple of fleas can cause a severe reaction leading to skin inflammation, itching, chewing, compromise to the protective barrier of the skin and/or infection which eventually leads to more inflammation, itching, chewing, compromise…see the pattern. NOT FUN for the animal!! Ectoparasite (parasites that live on the surface of a host) control is VERY important! It’s number 2 on my diagnostic approach to dermatology just behind providing much needed itch relief for my patients. Don’t assume your pet is parasite free just because you are not seeing them. Infestations don’t take long to develop, but can be a nightmare to clear especially if there is environmental contamination. Don’t let these nasty creatures PLUNDER your pet’s vital blood supply and STEAL their quality of life. When it comes to parasites, prevention is ALWAYS #bestmedicine 🐾 ❤️ #handsofhope #veterinarian #vetmed #dermatology
