Social Media Dataflow Manipulation The western narratives often associate social media manipulation with disinformation/misinformation/fake content/misleading propaganda on the part of the information publishers, but do you know that the social media platform companies themselves can also manipulate dataflows of published content to influence public discourse? Info publishers and social media platforms are both manipulating content. As adults we should encourage all social media users to publish content, but be critical of any info published with regards to authenticity/morality/decency, and equally important, opposed to platform manipulation on dataflows (restricting appearances in feeds and therefore limiting influence).

Helping you get the right premises on the right terms for your business - independent commercial property advice, mentoring and online courses
It seems these days that everyone has an opinion on most matters, and it’s difficult to avoid others’ opinions if you’re active on social media! What I find interesting is the effect of social media on these things. 30 years ago you thought very carefully about taking something to “the media”. A journalist would have their angle on it and you’d effectively lose control of the narrative once it was out of your hands. Now, of course, the lines of communication are a lot shorter and simpler. We’re all doing our own journalism, in a way! What’s interesting though, is that people put everything on their social media platforms and often still lose control of it once the keyboard warriors get stuck in. The question is: are all these opinions valid? Have we lost the art of debate and accepting the validity of other points of view? I'd welcome your thoughts on this, actually! What do you think? #BusinessOwners #SocialMedia

When a reporter is pitched someone as an expert the first thing the journalist does is go on their social media to consider a few different things: 1) Are they leveraging their own platform to discuss the thing they're being pitched for? (You would be surprised.) 2) How do they translate on camera? Are they comfortable? Do they come across as credible? 3) How have they positioned themselves in a broader marketplace? If they don't have prior media experience, have they spoken on panels or at conferences? If their social media is barren and a Google search doesn't really yield results then it's a pass. The cost of producing content is too high and so is the competition for eyeballs to take chances on someone who hasn't already demonstrated an expertise or has created an audience to show that people care about what you have to say. So instead of waiting for your moment to leverage your expertise on a bigger platform, consider creating your own buzz right where you are. All you need is a cell phone. Social Media isn’t targeted to tell stories like local or national news is. It’s a tool to make people feel as if being seen is the same as holding people accountable, or progress. People sat and filmed George Floyd Dying. A Cat on YouTube falling asleep can get a billion views. Both were seen. Accountability has nothing to do with viewership. Remember that when you trade to trade the volume of your voice, for the progress of action. #SocialMedia #news #LocalNews
