Countdown for hae day:-) 2024 on 16 May – our annual celebration of the HAE community and our focus on awareness-raising efforts 🙌 Each year for hae day:-), HAEi's Member Organizations raise the bar with their activities’ creativity and their members’ motivation. In the latest issue of Global Perspectives, we caught up with several countries to hear more about what hae day:-) means for them and why you should consider getting involved (if you aren’t already). As NIMH celebrates its yearlong 75th anniversary, NIMH Director Dr. Joshua Gordon reflects on what stands out about NIMH’s progress! “Looking back, I think some therapies that have come out of the NIMH-funded science have been particularly impactful. These treatments include cognitive behavioral therapy and all the different antidepressants and antipsychotics we have. Some people tend to think these treatments came about by accident or trial and error. We discovered the first antidepressant by accident, but every single one after that was discovered because we understood something about how the brain worked and could design drugs that targeted specific areas or chemicals in the brain. Great presentation from Dr Tracy Leong on TOGA's international highlights symposium looking at international learnings and challenges from US, Europe and Asia. Learnings for the Australian National Lung Cancer Screening Program incl: -Inequality of access -Poor recruitment or poor return for rescreening -Integrating smoking cessation to realise full public health benefit -Adequacy of infrastructure and workforce -Asian women who have never smoked stand to gain equal benefit from screening as Asian men who have smoked (TALENT study) In addition, Australia's geography and population distribution, relative to location of healthcare services, diverse culture and language, and reaching indigenous Australians present unique challenges that will need to be addressed to see maximal benefit of the program.

東京大學發表了阿茲海默症的新研究成果，從血液中抽取plasma amyloid-β(Aβ) 與threonine 217 檢測時可以建立起腦中Aβ含量的相關性。此檢測手法可望得知腦中Aβ的累積程度，藉此提前預估阿茲海默症發作的可能性，及早做出預防與治療。 如果此檢測方法能應用於臨床診斷上的話，將會是治療這類疾病時的一大福音。 Tokyo Univerisity recently reported the research result about Alzeimer's disease. Aftering detecting the plasma amyloid-β(Aβ) and threonine 217 from blood sample with biomarker detection, researcher can build the relationship with the accumulation of Aβ in the brain. In other words, the accumulation of Aβ can be detected in advance indirectly, and may offer the chance to predict the Alzeimer's disease.
