GratiTuesday – Gratitude & Groundhog Day It’s GratiTuesday! Exclamation point added for a joyful emphasis not necessarily fully experienced. Feeling the midwinter doldrums? It happens. The glitz and glitter of the holiday season has faded into the monotony of everyday life. The bleak outline of naked tree branches silhouetted against chill, gray skies does little to inspire outdoor frolicking. Better to cuddle up indoors with a cup of hot cocoa to watch… “Groundhog Day”! Exclamation point added above for a joyful emphasis absolutely experienced! This film is one of my all-time favorites. On the surface it is a simple comedy and who couldn’t use a belly laugh right about now. However, the frantic antics of its main character, Phil – masterfully played by Bill Murray – slowly morph into more mindful activities as he is forced to relive and replay one day over and over again. “Life has a funny way of repeating itself.” The real gift of this film – the reason why I appreciate it enough to watch it repeatedly – are its gentle re-minders; to reflect on the impact of our own behavior on those around us; to clarify our motives for pursuing any particular vision; and the notion of “endless do-overs” – keep at it, you’ll get there. One more thing, here are a few more things to boost your midwinter moodiness: - Thursday, February 1st, is Imbolc - Friday, February 2nd, is Groundhog Day - Saturday, February 3rd, is the mid-point of the winter season! - Every day we have a brand new opportunity to practice gratitude : ) [ read full blog post at https://lnkd.in/ees-K7pV ] #laurelblossomyoga #lbyofficewellness #corporateyoga #employeewellness #virtual #onsite #meditation #employeeengagement #talentretention #corporateculture #resilience #gratitude #gratituesday #groundhogday #billmurray

Great video Laura...thank you. As Laura says, Lux is a great measure to quantify and compare different products as a first step. It is an indication of the overall optical system efficacy and from a design point of view, the goal is to achieve 10,000 lux at a good and 'reasonable' distance, say 100 to 250 mm. Products that do not achieve this kind of performance would offer much lower SAD benefits. This is often the case with products which are not marketed as a 'Class IIa medical device'. The second important point to consider is the amount of blue light which is emitted from the source. Many large and powerful SAD lights will have more traditional light sources such as tubes or incandescent light bulbs, which naturally emit a significant amount of blue light. A snazzy and modern SAD lamps, which are thin like a tablet and advertised as low power, are generally based around LED technology, and this is where some problems with efficacy can occur. A white LED is a blue LED with a phosphor ceramic slab stuck on top of it to give us a white light. The thicker the slab the more 'warmer' the colour of the white light appears, and less blue light comes through...this equals less efficacy when it comes to therapeutic benefits. A 'cooler' looking white light, although perhaps not as pleasant to look at, will be more efficient (at the same lux value). It is important to have confidence that what you use for your therapy is going to give you the right dose of blue light. Another nerdy but important point to be aware of is that every light source will deteriorate over time! The greatest enemy of any light source is the temperature...particularly the case with LEDs. Poorly designed LED based products that don't have adequate heatsinking (cooling) for LEDs, will see their optical performance reduce considerably in the early life, and then gradually diminish any positive, therapeutic effects in the medium to long term. Eventually, the individual LEDs within the product will start to fail completely; change colour due to delamination or turn off. The moral of this (long) story is to be careful when making your choice, as a lot of SAD sufferers will purchase the light source and convince themselves that it does not work for them. In the majority of these cases, this may be due to some of the reasons I explained above. Lumie has a fantastically capable R&D team that takes great care about product efficacy and user safety. I loved working with them and I use my Lumie light daily, which has been life changing for me. Get in touch if you want to know more.
Do SAD lamps actually work? If so, how do they work? I explored this in my latest video: https://lnkd.in/ev_MqhCW It'd be great if someone from Lumie see this..... Thank you to Vivobarefoot for supporting my work and my mission of living a healthy & cheerful life.
