F'inn turns 9 years old this month, and like many on their birthday, we're getting emotional thinking about our growth and the relationships we've built over the last 9 years. Update: I will be closing my brick & mortar shop to move Rancho Relaxo online so I can focus on my joint venture partnership at the Palm Springs International Airport.
Five years ago I set out to create a world class retail experience for the Coachella Valley. I am so proud of our current location at the Gardens on El Paseo. I have huge gratitude for the City of Palm Desert & the team at The Taubman Company who took me under their wing as a part of their Emerge incubator program for small businesses.
The last 5 years has been a wild ride. I named my business Rancho Relaxo because I hoped it would make people happy. I never anticipated that Rancho Relaxo would have as much resonance as it has. I started with one simple tee with our logo. Since that time, we have sold thousands of tees, hats, stickers, magnets with our name & branding. I learned that many people name their home Rancho Relaxo. I have had customers from around the world walk through our doors with a smile saying they like our name.
Needless to say, the last 5 years has had its share of challenges. I opened months before the pandemic. That timing defined my path to success. There were times as a small business owner that I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. The decision to take a break from being a store operator is Atlas Shrugging.
I am so grateful to be operating at a time in our economy and society where pivoting is viewed as a power flex & the democratizing force of the world wide web has lowered the barrier of entry & increased the potential reach of a brand. This is a business decision at the core.
I started with the belief that the retail & fashion industries have a disproportionate ability to affect positive change for both the environment and the economic empowerment of females. My guiding mission from day 1 has been to empower craftsmen through commerce by connecting my customers to the artisans I love.
My belief in these fundamentals has only strengthened over the last 5 years. Yet, I have felt my ability to execute this mission weaken & my capacity to serve customers with a smile wane.
I believe that there is so much more that I can do with Rancho Relaxo, yet I need to recharge my batteries to do it. There is extreme irony in naming my business Rancho Relaxo: as a small business owner in a tumultuous economy my life has been anything but.
Using my website as the platform, I will be able to be more nimble with inventory so I can focus on the new and the next. I plan to use this forum to continue to tell the stories of our artisans in a way that will be amplified well beyond the walls of my shop.
Finally, the airport. Being selected by WHSmith North America, a venerable institution operating over 230 years to be their joint venture partner and having our proposal for the retail renovation at PSP being selected by the City of Palm Springs has been the highlight of my career.

As the calendar flips to a new financial year, I find myself reflecting on the chapters that have closed and the exciting new ones that await. After a rewarding journey with Bevo Tech and Bevo Shelves, I’m embarking on a fresh adventure in the food packaging industry with Select Equip.
This transition marks not just a change in roles but a leap into a sector that’s ripe with innovation and opportunities. I can’t wait to share more about the projects and initiatives that lie ahead.
