One of the joys of working with CT:IQ has been the ability to translate best-practice research ethics to practical tools for the health and media research sector. The InFORMed template adopts layered consent, plain language, and is amenable to e-consent and multimedia. Back when I was a baby academic, the phenomenal Rebekah McWhirter and I co-authored the article McWhirter, R. E., & Eckstein, L. (2018). Moving forward on consent practices in Australia. Journal of Bioethical Inquiry, 15, 243-257. In this paper, we noted the 'perception that research teams sometimes adopt a tick-box, legalistic approach to informed consent, which may overshadow efforts to promote participant understanding'. I'm hoping that the InFORMed template can help spur the sector from these legalistic approaches to a focus on the genuine provision of meaningful information.
We were thrilled to launch the InFORMed #PICF template! This milestone wouldn't have been possible without the commmitment, expertise, and collaboration of our incredible project team members. CT:IQ is proud to contribute a consumer-centred PICF for the Australian health and medical research sector. This template is designed to enhance clarity and understanding for participants, ensuring informed consent is truly informed. Access the PICF: https://lnkd.in/gaqhCn8r
