Zomato's new ad encourages customers to be patient and not rush Delivery Partners. But it undermines the core promise of convenience: getting what you want, when you want it. You cannot put the onus on customers to listen - they’re paying for a service, and they expect it on their terms. Instead of relying on customer empathy, here are actionable steps to improve delivery efficiency without compromising safety: - Support restaurants to optimize their delivery menus to reduce prep time. Items which require lot of prep time can be omitted altogether. - Encourage customers to use the "near and fast" feature - providing disclaimers about food quality (fast food may not always be the best food) and removing discounts for such orders. - Ensure fleet managers enforce DE break times—rested DEs mean faster deliveries and happier customers. Overworked DEs cannot perform fast deliveries - it is a universal truth. - Provide DEs with regular training on efficiency, including fuel checks, shortcuts on assigned zones and safety practices. - Limit customer support interactions with DEs to minimize distractions; contact them only when absolutely necessary. Convenience has a cost, and balancing it with safety requires smart strategies, not just customer goodwill.

Dear Deepinder Goyal, As a loyal Zomato user, I was disappointed with the recent handling of a complaint regarding a food order. I ordered Biryani and other food items from Meghana Biryani, Electronic City via Zomato, but the food was unfit for consumption—it had a foul smell, was not edible, and the chicken was too hard with the foul smell. Despite raising a legitimate concern, I was told that Zomato, as an intermediary, cannot take responsibility for the food quality. While I understand the challenges of being a platform, accountability towards customers is equally essential. I urge you to reconsider policies prioritising customer satisfaction, especially when health and safety are at stake. Loyal users like me expect Zomato to uphold its promise of quality and trust. I was shocked when Zomato went public. Did not even apply for the IPO. I couldn't have been more wrong. This is one company that is drilling down deeper into its niche. Look at this subtle update. A great new feature addition - one that definitely stems from real world insights from the likes of offices, colleges, house parties etc. What’s even more interesting is the chain of comments that follow. These have some great suggestions to enhance practical usability of this feature on the App. Example: Splitting up the payment if need be or having a list of favourites or pre defining options to choose from and so on. Simple example of how impactful product development/ extension ideas are crowdsourced or based on real pain points.
