I had the privilege of attending this Women's Energy Network Colorado event yesterday, where Mary Zappone, CEO/Director of Sundyne, shared some inspiring insights. One standout message from Mary was: "Be the somebody." She explained that often in meetings or daily work life, we hear phrases like "somebody should fix the break room" or "somebody should update our policy." Mary's advice? Be that somebody. Take initiative in your career, solve problems even when you're not asked, and don't hesitate to roll up your sleeves and get involved. 🚀 This resonated deeply with me. While I'd like to think I've embodied this philosophy throughout my career in various ways, it was an excellent reminder of its importance. It's about being proactive, taking ownership, and making a difference where you see an opportunity. Mary's words serve as a powerful call to action for all professionals: Don't wait for others to address issues or implement improvements. This is a brilliant leadership lesson. One of the challenges I come across often in leaders is this: they want their teams to "step up", or "own their patch". But when it comes down to it, they don't always trust them to do so. So instead of handing the ball back, they instruct, direct, tell and solve. Yes, things might get done a little faster (short-term). But there's a massive missed opportunity in ALLOWING people to step up. And then they're surprised when their people don't speak up, aren't proactive or don't assert themselves. Chances are, those people have learned it isn't worth it, because they'll be told exactly what they should be doing anyway. As Andy Stanley said: "leaders who don't listen will eventually be surrounded with people who have nothing to say". #consciousleadership #listeningskills #teameffectiveness #leadershipdevelopment #teamempowerment

🌍 Amazing week back in the UK for our annual global leadership meeting! We dove into our strategy for the next two years, discussing how we can operate even more effectively as a leadership team. Reflecting on a challenging year, it's inspiring to see how far we’ve come, boosting efficiency, scaling operations in the US, and launching a landmark project in FiveTwoNine. We’ve also integrated cutting-edge technology to solidify our position in the creator economy. Our goals for the future are bold: growing client fees, investing heavily in improving our team’s BDB experience, and streamlining our operations to deliver even greater impact. It’s not just about celebrating the wins we’ve achieved, but how we’re building a foundation for bigger successes ahead. And of course, it wasn’t all work! We ended the week with blindfolded driving (thankfully not a metaphor for decision-making this year) and my personal favourite: the minefield challenge. Here’s a snapshot of the fun.
