Though Julia Morgan was one of the first licensed #womenarchitects in California and the nation, there are many more today who are front and center and behind the scenes of many projects, #residentialdesign #residentialarchitecture #commercialarchitecture
Born into an affluent San Francisco Bay Area family on this day in 1872, pioneering architect Julia Morgan bucked the traditional path for women of the time by attending UC Berkeley and majoring in civil engineering. She continued her studies at the prestigious, then all-male, École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, becoming the first woman to graduate from the school. She developed a reputation as a go-to architect and by the time she died in 1957, she had designed an estimated 700 buildings, mostly in California, where she was the first woman in the state to be licensed as an architect. Morgan’s groundbreaking career spanned a major earthquake, the Great Depression, and two world wars. Today her legacy continues through her iconic works which include Hearst Castle, the Chinese Historic Society of America, and the Berkeley City Club. I am deeply grateful to Professor Bryan Bell for including my work in one of upcoming book. This opportunity marks my first step into Architecture Writing and Design Activism, and I am excited to share this journey with you. "Value Beyond Building: A Case for Justice through Architecture" By Bryan Bell, Emma DeMagistris and Devesh Balakrishnan. “Architecture has the power to shape our physical environment and, through it, our lives. Beyond aesthetics and functionality, it holds the potential to address critical challenges and inequities in the world. In this chapter, we explore the concept of justice through architecture. Drawing insights from the philosophy of John Rawls, we highlight the importance of designing spaces that heal historic injustices, empower communities, and foster social equity.”

Proposal training and turnkey proposal management that result in AEC companies winning more work without adding on more payroll
🌟 Historical Insights to Propel AEC Excellence This summer's venture into the historic heart of Philadelphia revealed more than just Fireworks. We uncovered essential lessons from iconic landmarks that relate to our industry’s challenges and goals. Precision & Strategy: Like the USS New Jersey, every section of your proposal should be meticulously crafted to meet specific client needs. First Impressions Matter: Inspired by the 4th of July parade, let's make our proposal covers as engaging as those vibrant floats. Transparency & Trust: The Liberty Bell teaches us the strength in acknowledging imperfections. Let's weave this transparency into our growth narratives. Multifunctional Dynamics: As in Betsy Ross' multifaceted workspace, our teams are versatile, ready to tackle diverse challenges for success. #AECExcellence #BusinessDevelopment #ProposalManagement #Philadelphia Where have your travels taken you, and how have they inspired your professional techniques? We could not agree more President Dowdell, #RepresentationMatters! "In the US, only 2% of licensed architects are Black. Less than a single percent are Black women." – Kriston Capps (Bloomberg CityLab) Our cities are the creations of their creators and we desperately need to welcome others to ensure future cities are destinations ensuring the health, safety, and welfare for everyone. "On the north side of Chicago, which is more wealthy, the life expectancy is about 90 years of age. Then on the south side, which is less well resourced, that life expectancy is 60 years. We’re talking a 30-year life expectancy gap determined by zip code." – Kimberly Dowdell, AIA, NOMAC #Architects #KimberlyDowdell #CommunityImpact #Equity #FutureCities #BloombergCityLab #UbuntuASAP
2024 AIA President. HOK Architect. Cornell Trustee. Detroit Daughter. Ingenuity Chicago Board Chair.
Architects can see the future and help create a better one through an improved built environment. That’s why it is important that our profession reflects the communities that we serve. #RepresentationMatters

“Measure twice, cut once”. Here’s a sustainable business with a difference. Life size Plans Leinster use projection technology to provide you with a real-life walkthrough of your home or commercial building plans, revealing potential issues that otherwise typically reveal themselves during (or after) construction. Identifying and resolving issues at the planning stage with a walkthrough setting avoids the costs and stress of re-work - and importantly avoids the associated waste of resources from re-work. Well done to John Foley and Emma Foley for bringing this innovative solution to Ireland.
It is always a pleasure to welcome award-winning architect and founding partner of Douglas Wallace Consultants Hugh Wallace to Lifesize Plans Leinster with his clients. Looking forward to welcoming him back soon. #bringyourplanstolife #lifesizeplansleinster #rightfirsttime #selfbuildireland

Chicago is the "City of the Century" for its legacy of innovation, resilience, and impact. Rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1871, it pioneered the modern skyscraper and set global standards in architecture. During the Industrial Revolution, Chicago became the country’s railroad center, driving the economy through manufacturing and trade. Culturally, the city shaped American music, introducing jazz and blues legends like Louis Armstrong. The 1893 World’s Fair showcased groundbreaking achievements, cementing Chicago as a leader in arts and industry. Social reformers like Jane Addams transformed the city, leading labor and civil rights movements that left a national imprint. Chicago’s constant reinvention—from revitalizing its waterfront to leading in tech and healthcare—reflects its resilience and ambition. Today, it stands as a symbol of progress, diversity, and innovation. #CityOfTheCentury #Chicago #Innovation #UrbanDevelopment #Architecture #Resilience #CulturalImpact #Leadership #Reinvention
