Her name is Artemis. She survived calici. With her survival, my optimism in life has survived as well. Artemis had three more siblings and a mom, two of her siblings died while in my care and her mom has been spayed. Artemis, too, will be spayed in a week or so. Her remaining brother is still under my care, and will be vaccinated before he is returned to their impoverished-but-caring pawrent. To say that 2023 is challenging - both in general adulting life and cat-pawrent life - is like saying water is wet. I lost my soul kitty, Poccie, in February 2023. I got a physically disabled foster for the first time in 5 years. Lost another foster to panleukopenia, which was fortunately contained and did not spread. My workload dwindled to the bare minimum = bare minimum income. I got through it alive. Scarred but alive. Artemis and her siblings arrived while being actively dying being the lowest point of my fostering - I am now at 50:50 odds. The lowest I had was 70 (alive) to 30 (not)%. But with Artie's survival, my optimism is surviving as well - it's only January, after all. :) Moral of this? Just because one is impoverished and uninformed, does not mean one is not caring. Just because one is rich and brilliantly informed, does not mean one has an ounce of care in their selves. #fosteringsaveslives
