Having a corporate internship at Big 4 while being in college was my dream since the first semester.
But I guess, life doesn’t go as we plan, or does it?
After months of cold emailing, I finally cracked the internship at Ernst & Young in my last semester, and it felt like I had finally achieved what I wanted to, making my first year self so proud.
But 1.5 month into the internship, due to some personal reasons, I wasn’t able to manage it with my full time college, and my marks started suffering.
As hard as taking this decision was at that time, I left the internship midway and focused on my own mental health and College GPA.
At that time, it felt like I wasted an opportunity that I literally manifested and worked so hard to crack, but today, almost a year later, do I regret this decision? Not even a bit.
Sometimes, we need to evaluate on what’s more important to us.
For instance, personally, for applying for MBA/Masters’, a good GPA was a non negotiable for the colleges I was aiming for, and while I could always refine my CV post college, GPA was something that I couldn’t change.
So the next time you find yourself in a crossroad like this, stop and evaluate on what will be more important to you years down the line and I am sure your older self will be so grateful to you for this:)
