Happily, #crisiscommunication isn’t always about bad news. That doesn’t mean it’s less stressful, though! Take the case of Staci Slaughter, who managed communications for the San Francisco Giants when they won the 2010 World Series for the first time in 50 years. Within days of the historic win, Staci had to manage a “crush” of groups like the media, fans, elected officials and more, plus plan a parade for a million people!
Still, Staci says the key tenets of crisis communication were the same:
🔹 The executive team needed to be aligned on messaging.
🔹 Communication needed to be clear, timely, and consistent across the stakeholder groups.
🔹 Often, overcommunicating was the best strategy to ensure everyone felt they had the information they needed.
Turns out, Staci’s team was able to execute on their “crisis” communication plan two more times, as the Giants won the World Series in 2012 and 2014!
Do you have a story to share about a good-news “crisis”?

I get to wrap it up with discussing the importance of storytelling and communication. It is with stories and intentional communication that we learn, connect our people to both the organization and their work and gain valuable understanding and context.
When we move beyond the what to provide the why we close gaps in understanding and create stronger organizations!
