AI specialized roles are continuing to see higher pay compared to their generalized counterparts. Here's a recent $742k offer for an E6 AI Researcher at Facebook. That sits at over $100k more (~13%) above the listed average we have for an E6 engineer on Levels.fyi. The offer includes a $275k base salary, $1.6M stock grant over 4 years, a $55k annual bonus, and an additional $50k sign-on bonus in the first year. What I am seeing is a market where everyone and their grandma is building AI tooling, making it hard for Big Tech to win folks over. These numbers are pretty steep. Back in the day of me hiring for facebook I didn’t see these base salaries come by for an E6. EMEA is no US, but still! Stock doesn’t surprise me though. Easy to slice that pie..
More than a bit ridiculous as AI is still an unrealized promise in most domains. Still… for ICs chasing packages this is great. Ride the hype…
I'm curious. How do the salary levels compare for roles related to AI safety?
low for staff-level imo
Kaleem Manaf some big hitters right there 👀
Nothing matches or even correlates with those total comp numbers in the world of the "other 95%". $275K base pay to senior-level IC is a stretch, but somehow explainable stretch. another $400K slapped on the top of that? For building a "better Facebook"? The only good thing is that it might allow someone to buy a first house, instead of someone else buying a third yacht. And even with that thought, I see Elysium at the end of this road...
