As we show support for World Suicide Prevention Day and Construction Suicide Prevention Week, it is important to change the narrative around mental health and suicide. While suicide occurs in 27 out of every 100,000 people in the general population, the construction industry sees closer to 53 suicides per 100,000 workers. Know that each and every one of you matters and you are not alone. If you’re having trouble, talk with someone who can help. Call, text, or chat to 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #ConstructionSuicidePreventionWeek

It is suicide prevention day and I often see narratives on the internet from organisations and mental health professionals where the onus is on the one who is struggling to “reach out” for help but someone who is neck deep in mental or emotional pain will not always reach out first. If your loved ones or people in your circles have been too quiet, not being themselves lately, be the first one to reach out- a simple hello, a simple conversation which is genuine, where there is space for the person to speak their heart out, a conversation that is filled with love, support and words of comfort/encouragement- can go a long way! Always strive to create this kind of a safe space for your loved ones- today and every day. Be the first to reach out in your communities. To volunteer and contribute towards helping people who are in need. Help uplift the communities where the risk of suicide is high!

Today begins National Suicide Prevention Week. September is designated National Suicide Prevention Month and is a time for communities to help people learn what they can do if they or someone they know is struggling, and how to have authentic, caring conversations about suicide and mental health. Anyone, anywhere in the U.S. can call, chat, or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). FACT: If someone can get through the intense and short moment of an active suicidal crisis, chances are they will not die by suicide. Learn more at afsp.org.💡 #k12education
