Wonderful experience to spend two days at the #DubaiFutureForum2023. Lots of interesting things discussed across a wide range of panels - including: 👴 Demographics, and what to do about declining birth rates, ageing populations and overall population declines - see here: http://grp.hsbc/6046RBFts 📊 How do we measure success in a world where we're running up against shortages of resources? Do we need to re-think growth models and what policymakers are targeting? 🥕 The future of food, and how we can produce enough food, and the types of food that we are able to produce. Some great panels and a chance to try some lab-grown foods, too! See our note on the future of food, here: http://grp.hsbc/6044u0ucr Some great conversations with a wide variety of people around the sessions, too. A pleasure to be involved! #HSBCresearch

The global population has never been bigger, but some countries are aging faster than others. How that affects a country’s economic growth depends on how quickly the population is aging and how the government responds. Jean Boivin, Head of the BlackRock Investment Institute, explains why. https://lnkd.in/eZT3M2G9 The results are in. Aon conducted an actuarial analysis of a cohort of Surest members derived from 2021 and 2022 Surest books of business. Aon’s analysis used their member-level Cost Efficiency Measurement (CEM) methods that compared the experience of the Surest member cohort against a control group derived from a multi-employer, self-funded, commercial claims database with matching demographics, geographics, diagnoses, and health comorbidities for the same time period. The findings showed the Surest health plan led to an average savings of $400 per member, per year and demonstrated sustained performance and efficiency across ages, conditions, and comorbidities.

PDF The Silver Market Phenomenon: Marketing and Innovation in the Aging Society Florian Kohlbacher, Cornelius Herstatt, Tim Schweisfurth (auth.), Florian Kohlbacher, Cornelius Herstatt (eds.) digsell https://lnkd.in/eAsRc6Bc The current shift in demographics – aging and shrinking populations – in many countries around the world presents a major challenge to companies and societies alike. One particularly essential implication is the emergence and constant growth of the so-called “graying market” or “silver market”, the market segment more or less broadly defined as those people aged 50 and older. Increasing in number and share of the total population while at the same time being relatively well-off, this market segment can be seen as very attractive and promising, although still very underdeveloped in terms of product and service offerings.
