This space represents the experimentation and experiential design by Priyanka Arjun and Associates. The building is located in the commercial center of the city. It possesses a strong character and is inviting to passersby. As architects, we aimed for an intervention in the dull and boring commercial cityscape—a space to initiate a dialogue for unbound creativity. Envisioned to deliver an unforgettable spatial experience, the design features two intersecting glass domes. The larger dome, with a 50-foot diameter and standing 35 feet tall, is covered in insulated canvas and double-glazed glass (DGU), while the smaller 38-foot dome, 23 feet in height, is entirely crafted from glass. The structure is designed in a metal, like Buckminster Fuller dome. Sectionally, it is three-quarters of the diameter, converging at the base. Structurally, it was more challenging to design than a hemisphere. Architecturally, it appears to bulge out of the landscape planes. The envelope follows a dominating pattern of triangles, pentagons, and hexagons. During the daytime, in interiors beautiful shadow patterns traverse the space. Mood lighting and vivid reflections enhance the surreal vibe. Acoustics pose a challenge in the spherical volume. To create a uniform sound field, flooring materials and absorbent panels are strategically placed. Our firm is committed to sustainable design. We enveloped the dome in DGU glass and added extra layers of landscape. To the south, towering forest greens strategically shade the larger dome. The use of double glazing with sandwich argon gas renders the structure climatically responsive, ensuring comfort and efficiency. As the larger dome is placed in the south, it shades the smaller dome. The angular and layered front landscape, along with reflective water bodies, serves as a complementary foreground to the smooth spherical masses, creating a harmonious and visually striking environment. Locally available slate stone is used to cover landscape steps; it has natural patterns and minerals that shimmer in sunlight. A lot of groundwork has happened in creating this iconic space. We are thankful to the client, vendors, craftsmen, contractors, and masons.
