Discrepancies in feedback from different members of an interview panel is not a bad thing! It's very normal for interviewers to want, and look for, different qualities in candidates. Normal for them to want different kinds of support on the team. Discrepancies are an opportunity for everyone to get on the same page. It allows for discussion and getting to agreement on the role, how the team will work together, and how to appropriately assess candidates. This increases the likelihood everyone is aligned on the role and the hire can be more successful after they start. It also allows you to see and make the best hire. #interviewing #startups

One of my peers was scheduled for an initial interview for an executive sales role yesterday, but the company's HR team canceled it in the morning. I'm baffled as to why they would cancel on the day of the interview. They informed him they were in the process of presenting an offer to another candidate, yet they were still scheduling appointments for initial first-round interviews. The VP of Sales candidate had dedicated a significant amount of time preparing for this interview, as one should. To be informed at the last minute that they are "going another direction" and "making an offer to another candidate" is disappointing and frustrating. It's evident that there are issues with the hiring process that need to be addressed, as it's neither productive nor effective for the candidate or the company. #hiring #startups #recruitment #findgoodpeople

Don’t overcomplicate the interview/hiring process. Hiring top talent is an art. It takes practice and process. It’s important so you should do it right. If the plan is to fly by the seat of your pants, your result will most likely end up like every other thing you do without a process or practice. You don’t want that. Just imagine that perfect dream candidate. When they get off that first interview, based on your current process how do you think they would feel? Would they be blown away by how prepared and organized you are or will they want to run away from what looks like a big mess to them?
