[06/13/23] Fund Conversions Continue Apace
WEEKLY ROUNDUP OF ETF FILINGS, LAUNCHES & CLOSURES
The Fidelity Disruptors Fund that is converting into the Fidelity Disruptors ETF (FDIF) will go live on June 20.
The fund conversions come as thematic funds have suffered large outflows, with $7.5 billion over the past year due to continued underperformance.
This week saw consolidation of funds from two thematic ETF providers, with Amplify Investments buying the funds held by ETF Managers Group.
The past week saw regulatory actions by the SEC against the cryptocurrency exchanges Binance and Coinbase for a variety of alleged infractions. Despite this potentially dicey regulatory environment, VolatilityShares, which runs leveraged and inverse VIX ETFs, is pushing forward with a leveraged bitcoin futures ETF.
Investors curious about thematic ETFs, but who want a cheaper alternative, may want to look at the 11 sector funds with portfolio exposure to certain industries. For the tech industry, investors can use the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK).
