THE #1 MISTAKE BUSINESSES MAKE ON FACEBOOK

What is the one big mistake a lot of businesses seem to make when it comes to their Facebook page or Instagram account.

“100% SELF PROMOTION POSTS”

If you are doing this or your Social Media Manager is doing this tell them to stop, right now!

Scenario: You want to buy a new pair of shoes, you walk into the first store and the sales attendant greets you with the following…

“Buy our shoes”

“Our shoes are the greatest”

“Buy our shoes”

“We have all the shoes”

“Shoes, Shoes, Shoes”

“Buy our shoes”

You go to another store that also happens to sell shoes and the sales attendant greets you with this…

“Hi, how are you today”

“How can I help you”

“We have a wide variety of options and I would be happy to answer any questions you have”

“Feel free to look around”

The Social Media equivalent of the first scenario is businesses that only post “sales” type posts. Nothing else, just their products or self promotion.

Talk about a snoozefest!

That becomes boring very, very quickly to the average Facebook user and builds absolutely no rapport. Worst case scenario they hide your page or unlike it because it's seen as spammy and self serving.

Posting like this does your business a massive disservice.

Social Media is just that, social. People want to engage, they want to laugh and they want to be happy. So mix up the posts on your page and add content that you know will put a smile on their face.

Mix up your content, use different types of media, photos, video, events etc. Engage with your followers, ask questions and listen to what they have to say…. the good and the bad.
