It’s more important to find the right people than it is to find the best people.
The term "business superstar" gets thrown around an awful lot, typically associated with that perfect employee — one who possesses the best skills, knowledge and work ethic. These are certainly ideal candidates, but businesses that dedicate their time to finding the perfect employee may be doing themselves a disservice.
This sentiment was expressed in a recent Talkin' Cloud article. The piece identifies 10 things every cloud or other managed services provider should know when looking for employees to fill open positions. John Davenjay, the article's author, says companies are not built on superstars. Instead, they are built on solid role players who are reliable and can take on several responsibilities. Superstars are great, but they are not as easy to find, so any vision of building a company on those individuals alone is a mistake.
"Every employer loves the entire package — an IT support prodigy. Your clients love them, and they fit perfectly into your company culture," Davenjay writes. "The one perfect candidate may be out there, but it's much more likely that numerous, very good candidates are waiting to interview with you. The best employees are the ones who are of good character, reliable, consistent, eager to learn and easy to teach. Remember: talent can be cultivated and developed. But even an exemplary and technical all-star is of little value, if they can't show up to work on time or play well with others."
VARs and MSPs must ensure they are finding the right candidates, for their needs, even if they wouldn't be objectively defined as the best candidate out there. VAR Staffing helps organizations find the right people by identifying and recruiting candidates who can fill specific business roles.
