2016 Toughest Interview Question...really?
I was reading the latest recruitment news and this article came up, 2016 Toughest Job Question reveled, in which as per glassdoor survey below are some of the toughest job questions asked during interviews:
The full list of question can be seen below (few from the list):
- “Which magic power would you like to have?”
- “If you were a fruit, what kind would you be and why?”
- “If you could have dinner with three actors that are no longer living, who would you pick?”
- “How many hours would it take to clean every single window in London?”
- “How do you get an elephant in a fridge?”
reading these is like a contrast to where the experts say the future of talent assessment is. The basis of why such questions are asked and what is derived from the answers will hold the key to their relevance. There are better ways to find out if a candidate is suited for a job he/she is being interviewed for. Like we do in recruiting where every recruiter at every level goes through a sourcing test before even going through the interview. Through practical demonstration of skill we are 24% more likely to find the closest match than such questions (cited from work rules).
Hiring managers taking shelter of such questions to make decisions should be discouraged and trained to better interviewing. Interviews without detailed written feedback of quantitative nature is just reconfirming the hiring managers impression of the candidate, made in the first one minute of starting the interview.
