2025 Eggs & Issues Breakfast Marks Beginning of a Great Year

I was honored to address state and local elected officials, as well as business, community and civic leaders, at the highly anticipated annual #eggsissues25 breakfast Tuesday morning, hosted by the Georgia Chamber. I also had the privilege of introducing Speaker Jon Burns, and am truly grateful for his leadership in the Georgia House heading into 2025, alongside all of the other members of the legislature, Lt Governor Burt Jones and Governor Brian Kemp.

Infrastructure+Energy is one of the priorities for the Chamber this year as our state continues to be the #1 state for business for over a decade. As a member of the Chamber’s Executive Committee, I’m energized about our plans to continue to grow Georgia’s economy, cultivating a business environment that helps elevate the quality of life of millions of our neighbors and brings prosperity for future generations of Georgians. Thanks to Chris Clark for another outstanding event and for your work at the Chamber!

Remarks Delivered on January 14, 2025

Good morning. My name is Kim Greene, and I have the privilege of working with 6,500 Georgia Power employees who are committed to providing clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to more than 2.8 million customers across the state of Georgia.  I’m honored to be here.
As we enter 2025, I couldn’t be more excited about the direction of this state, thanks in large part to so many of you in this room. One thing is clear: Georgia’s future is bright. The economy is strong with extraordinary development opportunities, and Georgia is the envy of the country in many ways. We are poised to create an even better tomorrow for generations to come.
It’s a point of pride for everyone in this room — Georgia has been the number one state for business for more than a decade.
Achieving and sustaining this notable designation takes vision, dedication, hard work and leadership.
At Georgia Power, we’re privileged to partner with many of you to ensure we have the tools and resources in place to serve our state’s growth and maintain this superior position.
We have always planned for the future – not just for next year, or the year after, but 20 years from now and beyond.  Our ability to plan for the long term is made possible by two things: 1) the sound and responsible energy policies that have been developed in Georgia over decades; and 2) the constructive regulatory environment cultivated by our elected officials at the Capitol and at our Public Service Commission.  This combination of constructive policy and regulation is unique – and not to be taken for granted.
What we have doesn’t exist everywhere.
No state is better prepared for growth than Georgia. I can assure you Georgia Power is ready to serve every megawatt thanks to the constructive policies and regulation that support our vertically integrated business model – where we plan for, own and operate the power plants, the transmission lines and the distribution lines.
Later this month, as required by law, we’ll detail how we plan to continue to support this state’s growth when we file our Integrated Resource Plan with the Georgia PSC. This established process is how we have built the reliable energy infrastructure we have today and will define what we build for tomorrow.
We will also detail our continued focus on enhancements to our grid to make our system even stronger, ensuring the reliability our customers expect and deserve.
At Georgia Power, our customers are at the center of everything we do, every decision we make. And our teams recognize the significance of that.
Their commitment to customers is evident every day, but it’s even more apparent during times of extreme weather. I saw it this past weekend as our teams responded to Winter Storm Cora, and I certainly saw it this past September during Hurricane Helene. Our employees work through incredibly challenging conditions to serve customers.
That’s one of the best parts of my job — getting out into our communities with our teams as they keep the lights on for Georgia. I love getting to meet with our employees, customers and communities.
When conditions were at their worst – as in the hours and days after Hurricane Helene — our state was truly at its best. In the days following Helene, I traveled throughout the state and witnessed devastation on a scale I could have hardly ever imagined.
Helene left behind an unparalleled trail of destruction. In fact, it was the most damaging storm in our company’s 140-year history, surpassing the damage wrought by Hurricanes Michael, Matthew, and Irma combined.
But the optimism and resilience I witnessed from our customers and our communities in the face of that devastation was inspiring.
For Georgia Power, Helene was an incredible challenge, but it was also a proof point. The investments we’ve made in smart technology, physical infrastructure, generation assets and innovation are paying off. The work we did years in advance prepared us for that storm. Just like it did a few days ago as our teams worked to keep customers safe and warm during Winter Storm Cora.
On behalf of Georgia Power – thank you for your leadership, partnership, and what you do for our state. Please know that we’re proud to be here for Georgia, here for you.
