The 25th of April and Portuguese Fashion

The 25th of April and Portuguese Fashion

The 25th of April revolution was also a landmark on Portuguese Fashion. Only after the revolution in the eighties Portugal has had Fashion Design Schools, despite the fact that Portuguese textiles were well established since the 17th century, when Portugal stopped to be just a country of merchants and traders to become a land of manufacturers and crafts.

In the book on Fashion Spaces Paula Costa Soares and myself explain how the creation of Portuguese Fashion Design Schools gave rise to generations of Portuguese Fashion Designers with a style of their own contributing to the rise of Portuguese Fashion DNA. This book is available also in Portuguese and today we pay a tribute to all the wonderful people, designers as well as workers and entrepreneurs who made of Portuguese Fashion what it is today the fifth exporter of Fashion in the world (Euratex Report 2021).
