There Are 3 Types Of Job Seekers (Which Sounds Like You?)

15 years as a career coach has shown me time and again, when it comes to job search, people fall into three categories:
1. The (unknowingly) lazy.
This person has no idea they're using the ineffective "spray and pray" method of job search. They don't realize applying online to hundreds of jobs is essentially the, "lazy person's" approach to looking for work. Not only are thousands of people doing it, but the chances you make it through the applicant tracking system and get your resume reviewed by a human are less than three percent. Technology may have made it faster to apply for a job, but the automation has also made it easier to get rejected too.
2. The angry victim.
This person knows they need to put more of a proactive effort into job search. However, their frustration and fear of rejection puts them in a foul mood about it. With each "no" they get more upset. Condemning the entire process as unfair and impossible, their negative attitude hurts their chances of success. Even the best actors can't hide the fact they are feeling powerless.
And then, there's the ideal....
3. The curious pragmatic.
This person knows they aren't a pro at job search. BUT, they see this as an opportunity to learn and grow their skills. They aren't hard on themselves. They don't blame others for their situation. Instead, they focus on how they can gain knowledge and insights on a daily basis that will help the achieve their goals. They embrace the Work It Daily mantra, "if your career skills aren't growing, their dying." They know perseverance, patience, and positivity will get them the results they seek. [They also find work faster and have more fun doing it!]
If you're realizing you fall into #1 or #2, don't worry. I've got good news...
LinkedIn has given me the opportunity to work with you via live stream! Each day at 12pm EST, I am now broadcasting a live show in my LinkedIn feed to provide career growth and job search advice. It's part of my mission to help 1,000,000 LinkedIn users grow their careers in 2020. Yesterday, I presented on the topic of the three job seekers and how you can become a curious pragmatic. You can watch the recording below. I hope you find it helpful and I thank EVERYONE who is joining me each day. Your participation makes all the difference!

4yIn so many ways, Ms J.T. O'Donnell certainly isn't in the wrong : in my belief, there is another - the "gambling" jobseeker - why I gave it that title, is the reason why they take the opportunity and could (unwittingly) get chosen there and then, as in being in possession of their hard copies of a CV and covering letter, then making queries in any/every employer (within a certain skill set) and it might get them opportunities never thought possible. I've done it countless times and accepted the fact that most applications are done online, that certainly doesn't take away the time when some people take an initiative to hand in their details, as I say on my Instagram profile "Opportunity Is Everything". All the best to everyone.
