4th of July

4th of July

I do not think I will ever understand the fascination of fireworks - the expense, the danger, the noise. The total disrespect for your neighbors and the mess left behind. The possibility of fire in a neighborhood is high and the level of respect and regard for the other people around you seems low.

As we drove into our neighborhood in the evening of July 4 after having dinner with the family, the road was blocked with people, both young and old, who seemed offended they had to move off the road so we could get to our home.  Setting off fireworks for four hours with no regard for the noise or mess left behind.  Driving down the street was an accident waiting to happen. So sorry you had to move so we could get home.

We slowly and carefully made it to our home and drove the car safely into the garage. I did have concerns for our other vehicle that was parked in the driveway – it is too tall for the garage.

It seems that those with the least spend the most on the fireworks. They could go to a fantastic local community display but choose to spend money they may not have to stay home and do their own thing.

What you do in your own yard it is true, is up to you. I do think having respect for your neighbors, their families, their property, is a consideration not fully thought through. What about your neighbor’s pets or young children? There were still a few booms and pops at midnight.

Today, the day after the 4th of July, I will have to clean up the mess made in my yard that I did not make or appreciate.

Outside to clean up the mess!

Great picture Dick Powell. I always loved #TexasLonghorn riding steers.  Is that one yours?
