5 Easy Ways to Show Your Car Love
When you first get your car, it’s all shiny and new but then, after a few years, it fades. It may have picked up a scratch or two and perhaps you haven’t given it a wash in a while.
Your car should be your pride and joy, but unfortunately, it can become all too easy to let it fall into disrepair. Car maintenance and auto body repair is crucial for the long life of your car. Plus, it will ensure you don’t have to spend more money on car repairs later on down the track.
So, we’ve pulled together some easy ways you can ensure you are up to date with your car maintenance to make sure your car gets some love this Valentine’s Day:
- Regular and thorough car maintenance
As your car gets older, it will require more love and care from specialists. Get regular services from an auto service shop, to periodically check things like steering and suspension.
2. Keep your car looking sharp
They say love is blind, but it doesn’t hurt to ensure your car is looking its best. We recommend giving it a proper wash regularly. Salt, bird business and other dirt build-up over time can cause rust and, if acidic, can eat into the paintwork and eventually corrode the body of your car, affecting your eventual resale value. Make it easy for yourself by washing regularly and giving it a wax twice a year or so to avoid this. Cars parked outside and/or in areas close to the sea will need more regular washing.

3. But it’s what’s inside that matters
Most of us spend a significant amount of time in our cars. It’s better to clean it regularly than wait until that inevitable moment when you have to pick up your in-laws from the airport without any warning, and there’s 39 plastic water bottles in the back of the car.
Take time to clean your car interior, removing any extraneous items. Vacuum the inside of your car, taking care to infiltrate any small spaces where dust and dirt can collect. Wipe down the center consoles and dashboard. You may need an old toothbrush to reach more intricate areas. If you have a car with leather interiors, the leather seats will need to be conditioned to prevent them from drying out and cracking. You can also bring your car into our Auto Spa.
4. Buy perfume
Cars can get especially musty in winter, when moisture becomes trapped inside the car from rain or snow. Best of all, you can now get air fresheners that have a scent and dehumidifier all-in-one, so it’s easier than ever to keep your car fresh and keep out the damp air.
5. Change fluids regularly
To ensure your car is hydrated, make sure it doesn’t run down too low on fuel. Check the engine oil before a long trip, and aim to change it every 6 months. Oil looking dark or gritty? That’s usually an indication you’ll need to change it. It’s also important to check transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid and power steering fluid periodically to ensure these are topped up. If you’re not sure when or how to do this, check in with an auto service shop to make sure your car is running properly.
