$500,000 Grant for New Darien Bioscience Company

Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff and Senator Carlo Leone announced a grant for a local Darien wearable health technology company called Mobile Sense Technologies, Inc. The Cliff Ave. company will receive a $500,000 grant through the new Connecticut Innovations program.

“The growth of early-stage companies like Mobile Sense play a critical role in creating jobs and building the economy of the future,” said Senator Carlo Leone. “This is exactly the kind of venture our leadership envisioned when we created and funded the new Connecticut Innovations program last year. I wish Justin and Mobile Sense the best of luck moving forward.”

Mobile Sense Technologies Inc. is focused on developing the first clinical grade, off-the chest continuous electrocardiogram (ECG) device to monitor and detect cardiac arrhythmias. The automatic monitoring provides 24/7, 365 days/year continuous detection and reporting of dangerous heart arrhythmias directly to the patient and to their doctor.

“Mobile Sense Technologies Inc. is a perfect example of a Connecticut company tapping into the skills and knowledge of Connecticut’s workforce to produce cutting edge and life-savings products,” said Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff. “As Connecticut seeks to become a leader in an innovation-based economy, smart and targeted investments by Connecticut Innovations will help businesses create good-paying jobs and strengthen our economy.”

“Mobile Sense is very excited by the Connecticut Innovations investment,” said Justin Chickles, CEO and Co-Founder of Mobile Sense Technologies. “The money lets us hire the critical people we need to take our technology from a prototype to a patient friendly device that can detect and classify arrhythmias while people go about their daily lives. Wearing an off-the-chest long term monitor is a new approach and enables going beyond 30-days to help identify the millions of patients with random onset arrhythmias who might not otherwise be detected.”

“We really appreciated the State of Connecticut’s continuing effort to drive new growth in med-tech and medical devices,” continued Chickles. “We want to build and create new jobs in the state and this enables Mobile Sense to start with a good foundation.”

Connecticut Innovations (CI) works closely with many early-stage technology and health-care related companies in Connecticut to provide guidance, customer connections and capital. CI invested $500,000 of a $1 million round of bioscience funding in Mobile Sense. CI has yet to invest the other $500,000 in funding.

“Although an early-stage company, Mobile Sense Technologies has shown considerable advances in their field” said Patrick O’Neill, director of investments at Connecticut Innovations. “Connecticut Innovations’ investment, through the bioscience fund, has the ability to help companies commercialize their products and become competitive in the marketplace.”
