56% of all adults in Germany suffer from inadequate vitamin D supply, putting them at increased risk of acute respiratory infection.
It is scientifically proven that a sufficient vitamin D supply significantly contributes to a well-functioning immune system and causes a strong immune defense. Unfortunately, only less than half of the adults in Germany reach a sufficient vitamin D level, and thus expose themselves to an increased risk of acute respiratory infections, according to the Bundesinstitut für Riskobewertung (BfR). Given the current global situation, one might conclude to take vitamin D supplements immediately, carelessly, and regularly to protect oneself.
But beware! This is a dangerous approach, as the BfR clearly warns about the health risks of preventive consumption of high doses of vitamin D without considering the individual vitamin D status.
It is clear that people with low vitamin D levels benefit from controlled vitamin D supplementation, boosting their immune system and preparing them for possible infection. However, it is essential that in parallel to each vitamin D supplementation, monitoring of the actual condition is carried out, to which the dosage can then be adjusted.
