7 Go Green: Plant a Forest, Grow a Future | 7-Eleven Thailand Spotlight

7-Eleven International (7IN) is pleased to share our first philanthropy spotlight series, featuring 7-Eleven Thailand and the 7 Go Green: “Plant a Forest, Grow a Future” initiative.

Beginning in 2020, 7-Eleven Thailand launched its 7 Go Green strategy, which is dedicated to expanding green spaces and combating greenhouse gas emissions. As part of this strategy, they established a goal to plant one million trees by the end of 2025. Since its launch, 558,787 trees have been planted by the end of 2023.

"CP All Plc., the sole operator of 7-Eleven stores in Thailand, aims at conducting its business toward sustainability in accordance with our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policy. Regarding the environmental aspect, the company operates under the 7 Go Green strategy. The goal is to plant a total of one million trees by the year 2025.", said Mr. Yuthasak Poomsurakul, Chief Executive Officer of CP All Plc.

To further accelerate the great progress made by 7-Eleven Thailand master franchisee, CP All Public Company Limited (CP All), 7-Eleven International awarded funding to enhance the 7 Go Green strategy through its Licensee Grant Program. As a result, “Plant a Forest, Grow a Future” was born.

The program takes an innovative approach using the 7-Eleven mobile app to engage customers and store associates to reach its goals in supporting the community. Each time a customer declines a plastic bag, they receive points, or “water droplets” in the app to grow virtual trees. After receiving sufficient "water droplets" through five growing steps, the virtual tree matures and a tree is planted in the community. As part of the program, CP All hires local residents to help plant the seedlings, creating jobs while enriching green spaces around the country.

Customers can monitor the number of trees they have contributed to planting, as well as the total number of trees planted from the campaign. This online engagement helps to foster a sense of environmental stewardship among users. Since the program’s unveiling, the team has been working to build awareness and social media buzz across their channels. Through digital campaigns on TikTok, Facebook and local media outlets, the campaign resulted in more than nine million customers participating on the app and one million virtual trees being planted.

In addition to planting trees, 7-Eleven Thailand is taking action to help combat plastic pollution, recognizing Thailand has generated plastic bags and straws contributing to a combined 36%* of the total ocean waste of the country. CP All eliminated plastic bags for regular purchases at more than 14,500 stores in 2020. However, stores continue to use plastic bags for hot food items, along with disposable plastic utensils and straws. The 7 Go Green strategy aims to address that issue by reducing usage by 10% each year. The team is not stopping there, next steps involve offering customers additional reward points in the app for using cloth bags instead of plastic. These ongoing initiatives will continue to engage customers, associates and support the community in working to expand green spaces and combat greenhouse gas emissions.

Our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility drives us to make a difference in communities. Together, we can create an equitable and sustainable future for all.
