9 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Moving In-House

9 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Moving In-House

Outlined below are 9 questions that you should answer before deciding whether to make that move ‘In-House’ or stay within the Agency.

The questions have been written and designed to be:

  • Deliberately open to ensure you can be nuanced.
  • Focus on the point of life and not just the day-to-day work.
  • Have no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer.

How To Answer The Questions

We suggest that you answer the questions in a single sitting. When you are refreshed (weekends are a good time). The open-ended nature of the question should mean that you are going to have to interpret this for yourself and there is no right or wrong answers.

Write out the answers to be as long as needed to full answer them. .

Then print the answer and post them to back too yourself along with the brainstorms that you used in the previous chapters.

When it arrives back read the section below on making the decision.

Lifestyle

Question 1: What about working as a Recruiter do you like?

Question 2: In the next 18 months are you expecting a lifestyle change? E.g. Marriage, becoming a father/mother, moving to the country?

Question 3: What do you want your work-life balance to look like? How will your life look different working In-House versus Agency?

Career

Question 4: Do you want to broaden your experience? How will you benefit from this?

Question 5: Are you wanting to manage people in the next 2-3 years?

Question 6: Do you want to spend the rest of your career as a Recruiter?

Personal Ambition

Question 7: Are you money motivated? If not, what motivates you?

Question 8: Would you work in an Agency again, if you could choose?

Question 9: What ambition outside of work do you want to complete? How might Agency or In-House help you achieve this?

Decision Making

Ultimately this is your decision to make. No one else can make this decision for you. No one but you, which is a liberating thought.

Making career decisions can be tricky and difficult.

So I suggest you follow the below process:

  1. Answer the above questions and write down the answers.
  2. Mail the answers to the questions above to yourself.
  3. When they arrive set aside a 90-minute window to make the decision.
  4. Read what you have written three times, once in your head, and out loud twice.
  5. Go for a one-hour walk or drive.
  6. Come home and make the decision ‘In-House’ or ‘Agency’ by phoning a friend, partner or family member of your decision.

Why Does This Work?

Firstly, you are giving space between you answering the questions and reading them. This allows your subconscious to get to work.

Secondly, you are setting a deadline (90 minutes) so that you have only a small window of opportunity to procrastinate.

Thirdly, you are being accountable by telling someone important to you about your decision.

So what will your decision be, ‘In-House’ or ‘Agency’?
