AFMC Strategic Plan: An Overview

A note from Gen. Duke Z. Richardson, AFMC Commander.

Team,

Our vast mission set is indispensable. My first seven months as the AFMC commander have only strengthened my opinion. I visited each of our six purpose-built centers, and it is evident we deliver on the needs of our Nation. Our workforce is compelling, driven, and innovative. Our newly-signed strategy sets the framework to ensure we are ready to meet the future demands of the Department of the Air Force while maintaining necessary legacy programs and requirements.

AFMC leaders at the Wings, Centers, and Headquarters collectively worked hard on a strategic plan to integrate and vault AFMC forward into 2023 and beyond.  The 2022 National Defense Strategy, the SecAF’s Operational Imperatives, and the CSAF’s Action Orders feed into this plan.

Over the next few weeks, I will break down each line of effort (LOE) through a CC Log series. To kick us off, linked is our signed strategic plan for your review and reference, along with a brief LOE overview below:

Deliver Integrated Capabilities (“The What”): Deliver Integrated Capabilities drives the integration of research, development, test, sustainment, support, and infrastructure to maximize readiness and lethality for each individual capability, and across all capabilities. AFMC will achieve this by simultaneously sustaining the legacy force, delivering the future force, seeking Air Force-wide enterprise solutions, and providing responsive support.

Strengthen Our Team (“The Who”): Strengthen Our Team involves advancing the professional and personal development, retention, and resilience of our workforce so every AFMC Airman and Guardian (civilian and uniformed) can achieve their full potential.

Revolutionize Our Processes (“The How”): AFMC’s processes are critical and enable our mission execution, assuring the development, delivery, support, and sustainment of war-winning capabilities.  AFMC must implement Enterprise Solutions and Digital Materiel Management to revolutionize our processes to best support mission execution and Combatant Commander requirements.

Amplify Warfighting Culture (“The Why”): Connect every Airman and Guardian to the mission and focus the materiel enterprise on delivering capabilities and services in support of operational execution and deterrence.

Together we are one AFMC…powering the world’s greatest Air Force!

Good afternoon. I have reviewed 65% of the document. I was thinking that LOE#4 should be incorporated in the introduction. Because the introduction highlights the who and the what etc. But LOE#4 (to my untrained eyes) appears to contain the Why. Simon Sinek says to start with the Why. Because that draws others in. I was also on the website as I didn't know the meaning of materiel. Super impressive list of achievements. I support transparency. At the same time, a lot of details are available on the website. Would reserve comments re: P-R-.C. As I am a civilian from Canada. However, it seems like basic research may be slowing down. Also, lots of ways to collaborate related to areas of climate change, food security, safe AI that is regulated, outer space security and many other areas. Thought I'd share. Thank you very much for all of your contributions to date!
