AI - Artificial Intelligence or Anti-Ingenuity

I remember that not so long ago, analysts were confident to conclude that AI would never be able to replace jobs that require creative acumen. And here we are today, observing in awe how AI can instantaneously put together a thesis, write poems, compose music and create paintings.

AI is amazing. Now, I associate it more with right-brain Picasso than the left-brain Terminator stereotype. On the surface, AI mimics emotions and tastes. While there is a general debate on whether AI would, could, or should replace human creative abilities, there is no denying that it will impact everyone's lives.

AI can replicate and combine ideas to deduct new ones based on rules. Is this not considered creativity? Moreover, we are trained in school to follow specific rules, principles and best practices like storytelling, colour harmonies, rhymes and chord progression. Observations, interpretations and experiences inspire all works of art. What makes art original is the creator's pick to draw observations and experiences with deeper emotional meaning and life's desires.

When AI only draws observations and concepts from the internet, it can only pick them based on what is available and validate them based on consensus on any measure without originality. Assuming that AI plays a significant role in creative work that draws upon consensus content and even more AI works of art devoid of originality at computing hyperspeed... it will surely hinder human ingenuity. 10 years from now, we may have made strides in AI technology. However, we would still have the fashion sense rooted in 2023.
