AI Is Popping up Everywhere—and That Includes the World of Recruiting and Job-seeking

In recent years, we’ve seen AI introduced into numerous workplace functions: chatbots for customer service, data monitoring, note-taking during meetings, and more. It’s no surprise then that AI is also now changing the game for both recruiting and job hunting, making the entire process of finding the right job or hiring the right person quicker and smoother.

Employers Are Leaning on AI to Boost Efficiency During Hiring

The recruiting process has typically involved a lot of manual work, like sorting through applications and resumes, scheduling interviews, and screening and communicating with candidates. And now, thanks to AI, some companies are finding new ways to automate these tasks and make the hiring process faster and more efficient, helping to match the best candidates with the right jobs. But at the same time, other employers are hesitant to incorporate AI into their processes, worrying that the potential time savings aren’t worth the risk of the algorithm dismissing promising candidates or accidentally introducing bias.

Job Seekers Are Using AI to Put Their Best Foot Forward

Similarly, job seekers are using AI-powered tools to polish their resumes and find jobs that are an ideal fit for their skills and experience. Certain tools also help candidates with interview preparation so they can walk into the actual interview with confidence. But just like we’re seeing with employers, job seekers are finding it hard to balance the tried-and-true recommendations from AI with their desire to show off their personality and what makes them unique. And from the interviewing side, automated systems and resume filters can make it harder for candidates to reach a real person or secure an interview, leaving them feeling alienated and discouraged.

Striking the Right Balance of AI and Personal Connection Is Key

AI promises numerous efficiency benefits. But we’re all human and need those personal connections, too. At Spherion, we’ve worked to embrace AI to enhance our recruiting process while continuing to commit to human interactions and our “power of local” that make all the difference for our clients and candidates. We’ve put new tech to work on resource-heavy tasks like candidate screening and market analysis to streamline the hiring process for both employers and job seekers—but we know they can never replace the personal touch of staffing professionals who have unmatched knowledge of the areas where we live and work.

The Spherion Difference

AI is expected to become more and more integral to the workplace in the future, so having a strategy for how to best put it to work will ensure you won’t fall behind your competition. Not sure how to make it happen when it comes to hiring or job hunting? As a staffing industry leader, we can show you how to leverage AI as a tool to enhance what you bring to the table—without losing what makes you or your company unique. AI can certainly be a time and work saver, however we must be careful to give the correct balance between the two. You do not want to lose the personal touch and that human connection between recruiter and candidate.

Effectively leveraging AI as a tool to enhance what you bring to the table, whether you're a job seeker or employer, is critical in today's market. However, like any tool, the true importance is using it properly and leveraging your unique talents, skills and differentiation in a genuine and personal way.

I think that leveraging AI as a job seeker can be game-changing, from tailoring your resume to interview prep to general research. It can seriously save you time and energy. At the same time, though - it's important to review, edit, and personalize anything that you get from an AI source. You still need the human touch and a good balance!
