Samsung Becomes First Tech Giant to Launch a Smart Ring

Samsung is aiming to attract fitness and health tech enthusiasts with its latest wearable, the Galaxy Ring, unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event.

The device, part of Samsung's AI-enhanced ecosystem, monitors health metrics through tiny sensors.

Though smart rings have been niche, Samsung's entry could make them mainstream. Analyst Ben Wood predicts a global market of four million smart rings by 2025, compared to 250 million smartwatches.

The Galaxy Ring, praised for its discreet design, offers 24/7 health and sleep tracking and is compatible with Android 11+ and Samsung Health.

Experts, however, caution about data privacy concerns, particularly regarding menstrual cycle tracking.

Microsoft Drops From OpenAI's Board

Microsoft and Apple have decided to withdraw from board observer roles at OpenAI due to increasing regulatory scrutiny.

Microsoft, which invested $13 billion in OpenAI, communicated its departure, expressing confidence in OpenAI's direction under the new board.

Apple also opted out of joining the board. This move responds to regulatory concerns about major tech companies' influence in AI.

OpenAI will continue collaborating with partners like Thrive Capital and Khosla Ventures through regular stakeholder meetings.

Anthropic's Innovative Prompt Engineering Tools

Anthropic has made crafting high-quality prompts easier with new features in the Anthropic Console.

Now, you can simply describe your task, and Claude 3.5 Sonnet will generate a high-quality prompt for you.

You can compare outputs side by side, create new versions, and re-run test suites to quickly iterate and improve results.

Additionally, you can grade response quality on a 5-point scale to see whether your changes have improved the performance.

OpenAI and Los Alamos National Laboratory Announce Bioscience Research Partnership

OpenAI and Los Alamos National Laboratory are collaborating to advance bioscience research using multimodal AI models.

This partnership aims to explore AI applications in vision and voice to enhance scientific discoveries in healthcare and bioscience, while focusing on safety and ethical considerations.

The collaboration highlights the importance of combining expertise from both institutions to innovate responsibly and maximize the benefits of AI in critical research areas.

Google DeepMind Wins Top Award for AI Weather Tool

Google DeepMind has won the MacRobert Award for GraphCast, an AI model that predicts 10-day weather in under a minute.
