Anti-Racism in Sport Accreditation - book now!
This programme is designed specifically for you, by people who understand the unique skills and environmental factors involved in leading sports programmes. It will transform your approach to one of conscious inclusion, creating a sense of belonging and community for all, and supporting you to eradicate racism and bias from within your system.
As coaches, we push our athletes and participants all the time to test their limits, to go beyond their comfort zone in the pursuit of achieving new levels of performance. Allyship and anti-racist approaches require full commitment, and a consistent and unwavering commitment to learning. In sport, this type of approach comes naturally to us when we are applying it to developing our sporting skills.
As a community, we have the template to break through the discomfort of racism, dismantle all the barriers people face and be a beacon of what a society free from racism can be like.
Equity Coach’s transformational accreditation programme for sports coaches and practitioners will launch in early 2024.
This course will be transformation for those who are ready to start the journey. Those who have a willingness to engage in uncomfortable conversations and challenge themselves to explore and question our previously held beliefs and assumptions. The journey to being truly anti-racist, and creating a culture and environment that enables everyone to belong and to thrive, is not an easy one.
Over the last few years, many of us, myself included, have been forced to confront an uncomfortable truth. Although we may have stood against overt racism, racial discrimination is a day to day occurrence in sport and it goes much deeper than the obvious things we see.
It’s really difficult to overcome and accept as a values based leader that we may have contributed to systems and structures that mean others do not experience sport in the same way I do.
Sport has given many of us so much. Together, we have an opportunity to make that be a reality for everyone. We can make sport a safe space, free from racism and the barriers our systems create.
ARiS accreditation includes a suite of toolkits
I have spent several years learning more about how I could do this. I’ve researched the history of sport, through the perspective of other cultures. I’ve researched racism in all its forms. And I’ve listened to hundreds of stories of lived experience through my work with Running Out Racism.
My journey has been longer and more challenging than yours needs to be. WIth the help of Professor Kevin Hylton , one of the UK’s leading authorities on racism and social justice in sport, we have distilled our knowledge and skills to create a six week intensive course. This course can help you develop the skills and confidence, to create an environment built on inclusion and belonging for all.
The course is now developed, and in partnership with The Chartered Institute for Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), we are in the process of putting together a full accreditation. This accreditation will be able to be held by both individuals and clubs, and enable you to use the kitemark to demonstrate your commitment to inclusion at your organisation.
The great news for the UK’s sports coaches, clubs and governing bodies… we’re taking pre-bookings and enrolments from today. Just email paul@equitycoach.co.uk for booking details, or go to our sport section of the website at sport.equitycoach.co.uk
