Article on the Quickway Proposal

Voice of San Diego, an independent online newspaper, recently published a Q&A with me about the Quickway Proposal, my vision for a truly effective transit system for the San Diego region. The Quickway Proposal is an integrated plan that, for less money than our currently-adopted plan, would far better serve the region, cost less to operate, improve the customer experience, save considerable travel time, and better support existing neighborhoods and communities, all while better focusing new development through the power of market forces. On average, the Quickway Proposal turns what today is an hour-long transit trip to just 21 minutes.

The Quickway Proposal isn't just a transit plan, though; community-focused updates such as the Uptown 2025 Proposal and the soon-to-be-published Mid-City Millennial Plan show how the right transit infrastructure can set the stage for world-class bicycle infrastructure, new linear parks, new public space, and even improved auto circulation and parking (I completely reject the notion that one needs to make driving deliberately worse in order to "force" people onto transit; rather, transit needs to offer a better value proposition to the consumer).
