BCO Dialogue: Building Value
The BCO Research Committee is delighted to announce a new roundtable initiative, bringing together thought leaders, practitioners, and innovators to tackle the most pressing challenges in workplace design today. These roundtable discussions invite open, cross-sector dialogue to address the future of the built environment. Each discussion, under the title of 'BCO Dialogues', will explore critical aspects of workplace design, providing a platform for fresh perspectives and meaningful conversations on creating spaces that prioritise human-centric principles, adaptability, and sustainable practices.
The discussions are structured to encourage open exchanges where leaders from architecture, development, engineering, asset management and more, can examine current trends, share insights, and reimagine how workplace design can evolve to meet the changing needs of people and the environment. Participants will be encouraged to take a critical look at both longstanding and emerging issues, from integrating sustainable materials to leveraging design for long-term adaptability and occupant well-being.
The inaugural roundtable, held earlier this year, opened with the theme "Building Value." This session, chaired by Isabel Allen from Architecture Today, examined how prioritising human needs and environmental responsibility can drive leasing and sales value. Participants discussed the tangible benefits of human-centric design, such as improving employee well-being, enhancing productivity, and fostering long-term adaptability in office spaces. Importantly, the group advocated for new standards in assessing office spaces, suggesting that data-driven metrics related to occupant satisfaction and environmental impact could better capture building value in today’s market.
