That Bloody Creativity!

That Bloody Creativity!

I believe I have mentioned it already once or twice.. the truth about creativity. A blessing and occasionally a curse, because you can never really switch it off. It's said it's like a browser with a million taps open, all the time. But here we are...

We all have to potential to be creative though, some more than others. The question is, what do we do with it? I firmly believe that as humans, we must create. When we stop creating, we stop having a future. That's the simple truth. Obviously, that doesn't mean we all have to paint the Mona Lisa and build the pyramids to contribute to our future. Creating starts with little steps: making somebody smile, making somebody dream. Build a bridge between 2 people before you start building one over a river or between two countries. When I look at the world today and see bridges being burnt and walls being built, I realise how important it is to fight against that and use the creativity that is given to me to stop the destruction and continue creating.

I also realise that my creativity might not stop wars and cure cancer, and I don't think that my designs will ever be mentioned in the same context as Boticelli's 'Birth Of Venus' or Puccini's 'Turandot', but I hope that what I do can make people dream. People who dream can make dreams come true, and one by one we might actually be able to build a better world.

As far as I'm concerned, I will never be able to stop being creative. Ideas are popping up in my head and I cannot ignore them even if I'd try. So I keep sketching yachts, doodling sports cars, dreaming up baby trolleys and music systems and just everything else. Incidentally, these days I'm making good progress with that old vampire story of mine (not quite sure whether or not that has something to do with being seriously sleep deprived). Being a designer I'm not doing it on 3-hole punched A4 paper using Courier 12 but rather working online with Wordpress and lots of illustrations. I was told that might seriously decrease my chances of ever getting it past the professional script readers, so it might not become a Hollywood blockbuster any time soon. Still, I enjoy working this way and hopefully some people might enjoy reading it. If you like, you can go to mina.coquine.cc and watch the progress!

Thank you! I know, it's winter so I'm probably a bit more philosophical than usual.... but the again, what's the point of being creative if you don't have a vision?
