Book Review: Incredible India 2.0 by Amitabh Kant

Incredible India 2.0 by Amitabh Kant presents an optimistic picture towards building a developed India and leapfrogging positive strides into multiple paradigms such as governance, business & economy, social transformation, infrastructure, and judiciary. It’s a book focusing on public policies and apprising the readers of several initiatives taken by the administration to realize the dream of a magnificent nation.

The book touches upon a motley of areas that require policy amendments to ensure basic amenities are met by the citizens of India. The constitution of NITI Aayog (a body incorporated to build a progressive India) to enhance transparency, accountability, efficiency, and ease of living is worth mentioning for the execution of their multiple initiatives.

I want to take this opportunity to discuss a concomitant topic wherein citizens across countries have multiple perspectives about the functioning of their governments. We have seen different forms of socioeconomic ideologies such as that of communism in China and North Korea. One is projected to surpass the US in GDP/capita by 2025 and the other is the world’s most isolated country. We have also seen the Scandinavian nations as being the happiest ones exemplifying democracy as a great example of leadership. On the other hand, we see the massacre of innocent citizens in Myanmar wherein the democratic decision of the citizens was overthrown and military rule established.

So, what form of governance should we citizens aspire for, or do we need one at all?

Maybe a form of governance where a plethora of opinions is valued, multiple religions can coexist, health and education are prioritized, per capita income satiates everyone’s needs and the list is endless!

However, can a utopian society really exist despite all these governments implementing their own set of protocols for our ‘welfare’?
