Boomers, wondering what's next? Consider U of M Advanced Careers (APPLY NOW)

Are you ready to leave your career job, but not ready for retirement? UMAC offers a pathway to the next stage of life – encore adulthood – a time of continued engagement and contribution that includes meaningful work.

Through our unique two-semester approach, you will take time for personal renewal, explore interests, and experiment with ways to apply your skills and talents in new ways. As a UMAC fellow, you will sit in on classes, engage in multigenerational learning, build a new network of connections, and contribute your talents in a career –building, volunteer role in a nonprofit organization.

UMAC is a gap year for adults – a time to step back, imagine possibilities for the future, connect with others who are lifelong learners, and experiment with ways to apply your talents for the social good.

UMAC is accepting applications through March 1, 2018. UMAC seeks fellows who:

·      Love learning and intellectual growth

·      Envision an active, engaged post-career life that includes meaningful work

·      Embrace mentoring and multigenerational learning opportunities

·      Have an interest in being a change agent for society

·      Are ready to dive in and fully participate in experiential learning

·      Connect with a community of learners as they launch the next stage of their lives

UMAC launched last fall with 10 fellows. Here is what some of our current fellows have said about the experience:

  • UMAC has been a transformational experience for me. I entered the program with the goal of exploring the “what’s next for my career” and the program has done that plus so much more.
  • UMAC truly serves as an agent for positive, intergenerational change within our society. It boosts the potential for having the younger and older striving together for the common good. Life doesn’t get better than that!
  • UMAC has given me insights into other career opportunities that I never would have considered at this stage of my life.
  • The UMAC program has provided me with what was missing when I was doing this work on my own – both a structured framework and a supportive group to give valuable feedback for the work I am doing.
