School Choice & Improvement Programs: Promise Neighborhoods Program I Dept. of Education

The PN program seeks to significantly improve the academic and developmental outcomes of children living in the most distressed communities of the US, including ensuring school readiness, high school graduation, and access to a community-based continuum of high-quality services. The program serves neighborhoods with high concentrations of low-income individuals; multiple signs of distress (which may include high rates of poverty, childhood obesity, academic failure, juvenile delinquency, adjudication, or incarceration) and schools implementing comprehensive or targeted support and improvement activities.

Eligibility: Higher education (IHE); An Indian Tribe or Tribal organization; One or more nonprofit entities working in formal partnership with a) A high-need local educational agency (LEA), b) IHE, c) office of a chief elected official of a unit of local government or, d) An Indian Tribe or Tribal organization

Award: Total Grant Amount - $4,000,000; Award Ceiling - $500,000

Submission Due Date: September 10, 2024

Kenya + DMV STEM Ecosystems

The partnership between the Kenya and DMV STEM Learning Ecosystems has created an enriching international STEM experience for 11 Kenyan student ambassadors, who visited the U.S. to explore STEM pathways and careers. During their tour, they engaged with institutions like NASA and Howard University, gaining insights into design thinking and problem-solving, which are crucial for future STEM innovations. This collaboration aims to inspire more students and educators in Kenya to embrace STEM education and replicate successful learning environments locally.
