Building psychological safety remotely
How do you know how remote team members are really doing?
The link between psychological safety and performance is now beyond questioning.

Remote—but not alone
Most of us have experienced the benefits of remote working at some point. Often, they’re such a game-changer that going back to the office feels impossible.
But let’s be honest: working on your own for long periods can get weird. Bonds between teammates take way longer to form. Conversations become 99% transactional. Written feedback gets misunderstood.
For leaders, all this amounts to a big challenge around building psychological safety. Making team members feel comfortable with each other isn’t just about good vibes. In tough times, it’s essential.
If someone is struggling in a remote team, you’ll only know if they speak up. And when you only interact through a screen for a few minutes a day, not speaking up can feel like the easiest option. Especially if you’re not sure how your manager or teammates will react.
Throw in the issue of teammates spread across different time zones and cultures, and the challenge gets even more complicated.
