Business Advice I Wish I Knew On Day One
Life is this never-ending growing snowball. The more you move in any direction the more chilled flakes the ball accumulates. Eventually, the snow will harden or smash into a brick wall. Eventually...life evolves.
Running a business used to feel like a New York Sunday morning. If you're new there you might not know the seasons can be harsh. Summer days can feel like you're treading in the depths of Valhalla. Winter mornings can make the blood in your veins slow down. Yet, in the middle of it all is a beautiful city and community.
From time to time I like to stop and reflect. I've been fortunate enough to see the world. To have that New York morning experience. It's taught me a lot about life and business. Today, I want to share some advice I learned along the way to help those living in the snowball effect. I want to share some advice I wish someone had told me when starting out.
Business Advice I Wish I Knew On Day One
1. Fail Fast. Fail Early. Fail Often.
For those who don't know, I run a few companies. The one I want to share with you is www.goLance.com -- this is a global Freelancer and Employer solution. You can find gigs from all over the world here. You can hire THE BEST talent from all over the world here.
goLance has allowed me the chance to meet business owners and freelancers from around the globe. There have been many lessons that stand out to me when meeting these people, one of the biggest ones is letting the data speak for you.
When you're out there launching a brand, testing new marketing concepts, trying different business ideas, let the data point you in the right direction. Have tools in place to measure, track and analyze where you stand. Data allows you to make smarter educated decisions.
2. Hire Talented People
You can't do everything alone. If you think you're an expert in all areas you will fail at something. Trying to be everywhere all at once, will eventually catch up to you. Share your vision with others and they will dream big with you.
What I love about goLance.com is the ability for any company big or small to have an army of talented, skilled, co-workers on their team. Small Company owners reading this should know goLance gives you the chance to compete with major ones. Major companies should know that goLance can help you save money by hiring talented people when you need them.
As a business owner, it's important to surround yourself with talented people. These are the ones you value because without them your company wouldn't be. They go the extra mile, they understand big picture ideas, they're the foundation of every solid company. When you find them, you hold on to them.
3. People Are An Investment - Pick Wisely
Every person you meet, every single one of them has something to offer or take from you. Think of when things are really great, who is there to challenge you to do more? Now think about when times are tough, who is there to challenge you to be more?
You want to have a strong mental game. Look at the company you keep, because every person you have around is an investment of your time, money, energy, and resources. Have those around you that better not just your business but you and I promise you will go a long way.
Final Thoughts...
I'm sure those reading this have lessons to share and I encourage you all to share them here with us all. I honestly want those around me to be in the best position possible for success. So if there is some gem of advice you learned, please leave a comment on this article. Let's share value together and help each other grow. That's a snowball effect I'd be proud to launch.

8yA great piece of advice I received was the 60/30/10 rule. Spend 60% of your time on what brings you money now, spend 30% on a growth area and spend 10% on something that could be a big hit or big crash. Amazing growth can happen this way.
