Canada Day Statement

Today, Canada celebrates 150 years of its birth. For me this signifies the birth of our adopted nation and of those who have come to this great land to give their families a new start. 

Although, I had visited Canada before immigrating many times, I never thought that one day I would be calling it my home and my country. In 1980, this great nation and its people opened the doors to me and my family and gave us a place to reach for our dreams. 

I have learned to love Canada, its values, its customs, its heritage and all that it has to offer. Today, I reaffirm my pledge to Canada to give back to it everything it has provided to me and my family. I will teach my kids to love the great diversity of our land, the history of its native people, the values it has. I will make sure that Canada is well represented in the world as the land of openness, inclusiveness, righteousness and liberty. 

Yesterday, Toronto celebrated this values through its streets with various activities of all backgrounds, today we will reaffirm our commitment to it to preserve those righrts for all.
