According to the United Nations air pollution emission standards, the greenhouse gas effect of CH4 is 21 to 28 times that of CO2. Much of the methane emissions come from underground coal mining, including post-mine activities.

For high concentration methane>3%, it can be used for power generation or producing LNG with various technologies based on its concentration categories. Various advance equipment can also help increase the methane drainage from underground for utilization.

But in the methane emission from underground mining of coal mines, ultra-low concentration ventilation gas accounts for>80%. Ventilation gas is drained during underground mining to ensure the safety of miners. A large amount of air is poured into the mine and the concentration of methane gas is diluted to less than 0.75% (ventilation gas). Ventilation gas is traditionally mostly emitted into air directly because of the extremely low concentration of methane and the difficulty in utilizing it.

Total amount of exhaust gas with extremely low concentration (<1%) is huge, with far-reaching impact on the environment. In recent years, the heat storage and oxidation utilization technology of very low concentration coalbed methane has achieved rapid development. The technology developed by CCTEG is centered on the conveyance, intelligent mixing, heat storage and oxidation of different concentration coalbed methane. It realizes automatic and uniform mixing of gas concentration and solves the problem of large fluctuation of gas concentration.

For 0.3%~1.2% concentration methane, it can be used for heating. The picture shows the use of extraction gas and air mixed oxidation for heating, instead of coal-fired boilers and hot blast stoves, to achieve shaft frost prevention, building heating, water heating or slime drying.
