Celebrate Women in SoftwareOne

Getting to Know Rosie Weng in her Own Words

I am Rosie Weng, a dedicated professional with a rich and diverse background, currently serving as a consultant for SoftwareOne. Having spent two years in this role, I have developed a deep focus and expertise in security M365 delivery, alongside managing responsibilities related to the copilot business. My work in SoftwareOne has allowed me to leverage my skills to contribute significantly to the organization's objectives.

One of my unique assets is my multilingual proficiency. I am fluent in four languages—Mandarin, English, Spanish, and Japanese—which I believe is a testament to my adaptability and commitment to continuous learning. My proficiency in Mandarin, English, and Japanese is not just a personal achievement but a professional asset that I utilize daily in my work, enabling effective communication with diverse teams and clients.

Prior to my journey into the IT industry, my professional landscape was quite different. I spent 3 years in Latin America, working in international trade as a sales professional and CEO's assistant. This experience honed my business acumen, understanding of global markets, and ability to navigate complex, high-stakes environments.

Transitioning to the IT industry, particularly as an engineer in SoftwareOne, was a significant shift. However, I have found immense satisfaction in this role. The challenges and opportunities in this domain are invigorating, and I thoroughly enjoy the process of solving complex problems, implementing robust security measures, and contributing to the organization's success. This experience has underscored my belief in the power of adaptability, continuous learning, and embracing new challenges, values that I carry with me in my professional journey.

Company Support – Work & Life

How has your SoftwareOne provided support and empowerment in your role?

My manager who leads the practice, has been a significant source of support for me in numerous ways. His guidance has been particularly valuable in navigating complex issues that arise during projects or daily work challenges. Two phrases he shared with me have stayed with me and continue to guide my professional approach. The first one is: "maintain a low profile," and the second is: "always be professional."

One example or experience from their own life that helped/supported them in their journey and their advice to all the Women and Men

Despite facing daily challenges due to my limited experience, Ryan has consistently served as an influential role model for me. His guidance has been instrumental as I navigate the struggles and growth that come with working in SoftwareOne.

In addition to my managers, my colleagues in have also provided substantial support. My team, which is predominantly male (approximately 95%), has always been incredibly supportive. They patiently explain concepts to me and guide me on how to expand my knowledge in these areas.

How can we empower young women and girls to pursue careers in STEM and other fields where they are traditionally underrepresented?

To foster empowerment among young women and girls, particularly in STEM and other traditionally  underrepresented fields, we must adopt a multifaceted approach.

Firstly, we should make a concerted effort to spotlight successful women who have made significant strides in STEM and other underrepresented fields. By showcasing their achievements, we can inspire young girls to envision themselves in similar roles, thereby breaking down mental barriers and preconceived notions about gender-specific careers.

Secondly, the implementation of mentorship programs can be highly beneficial. These programs can provide young girls with the opportunity to interact with accomplished women in these fields, gaining firsthand insights and guidance. Such interactions can be instrumental in shaping their career aspirations and providing them with a roadmap to success.

Lastly, it is crucial to foster interest and confidence in STEM subjects from an early age. This can be achieved by integrating engaging STEM activities into the school curriculum, organizing STEM-focused events and workshops, and providing resources and support to help girls excel in these subjects. Through these initiatives, we can help young girls develop a passion for these fields and instill in them the belief that they can succeed in any career path they choose.
