The Chilcot Inquiry and Happy Eid Celebration!
Eid celebration has arrived at the time Muslim population in Iraq has been experiencing violent attacks during Ramadan and the 1st day of Eid. I wondered how the Muslim community has been divided since 2003 when Iraq was invaded by the external forces. Yesterday, I watched the media coverage on the Iraq Inquiry or the Chilcot Inquiry on BBC with the official publication details given as the report consists of 12 volumes and is 2.6 million words long which cost £767 with a 150-page executive summary is being published separately which cost £30’ (BBC, 07 Jul 2016).
I was astonished by the destructive outcomes and upset to learn how the violation of mass destruction was legitimized by the politicians who acted on impulse without taking into consideration of the long term effects on human life, global warnings and economic disasters on a global scale. Iraq was invaded against the millions of people’s reaction which includes the non-violent 217 MPs in the House of Common in the UK.
The UK's participation was extremely contentious. A total of 179 British service personnel were killed in Iraq between 2003 and 2009, when British troops left Iraqi soil. Tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians died over the period, though estimates vary considerably.
The House of Commons authorised military action 72 hours before it took place but 217 MPs voted against, including 139 Labour MPs. Several members of the then Labour government, including former Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, resigned as a result. The weekend before the vote took place, millions of people took to the streets of London and other British cities to voice their opposition to military action.

I do hope that history should not repeat itself. In order to prevent the repetition of the similar mass distractions around the world, it is necessary to remember Sir John Chilcot’s statement, 2016 "The judgements about the severity of the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of a mass destruction - WMD - were presented with a certainty that was not justified. Despite explicit warnings, the consequences of the invasion were underestimated."
I wish all my Muslim clients, colleagues and friends Happy Eid Celebration despite all the inconvenience of mass destruct ions! Let's hope that the WORLD PEACE will be restored soon without irrational political conflicts.
