I have always been a Christmas fan. From a young age we embraced Christmas as a family and if there is ever an opportunity to put my Christmas jumper and Santa hat on you can almost guarantee I’ll be the first one in the queue. But, it wasn’t until I started a business that I realised that Christmas was my new best friend and why was that I hear you ask?...
It’s the one day of the year I don’t check my emails!
Taking time off is difficult for the majority of business owners, if you work by yourself it can feel like an uphill struggle to manage the work before and after a break along with the fear you will lose clients. If you manage a team you can feel guilty that you are leaving them to do the work and worry whether things will get done. And, let’s face it in this day and age our phones even go with us to the beach so you never really feel like you can switch off. I can’t tell you how many times I have said the phrase to colleagues and clients over the years “I am going away but I will check my emails so if you need anything just let me know”.
Christmas is a unique time, the majority of businesses close and the majority of people take the day off. It is the unique time of year where you get out of office’s for 99% of any emails sent so I say embrace it! Take advantage of the fact that no-one else is checking their emails and have a day off!
I’m going to leave you all with a thought…what if you could have more than just one Christmas Day in 2021?
