🔥 ClimaGazzette: From Global Warming to Boiling, Greenland's Glacier Retreats 42%, and Oceans Changing Colours

Welcome to ClimaGazzette, your weekly climate change newsletter that brings you the latest updates and thought-provoking insights. In this issue, we tackle three critical topics that highlight the urgency and complexity of our environmental challenges this week.🌿

Firstly, we delve into UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' warning of 'Global Warming' transitioning to 'Global Boiling'. Grab your sunscreen and join us as we delve into the implications and emphasise the need for immediate action.🌡️

We introduce you to Greenland's Nioghalvfjerdsbrae glacier, which has shrunk by an astounding 42% since 1998. We explore a connection between the ocean's microbiome and its colours, and global warming's impact on the changing colours of the oceans. Makeover much?🌊

At ClimaGazzette, we aim to keep you informed, engaged, and inspired to impact our planet positively. Join us as we navigate the challenges and opportunities climate change presents. Together, let's strive for a more sustainable future.🤝

🔥 From Warming to Boiling: UN Chief Antonio Guterres Rallies World Leaders for Urgent Climate Action 🌡️

In a stark wake-up call to the world, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sounded the alarm on climate change, declaring that the Earth has entered an "era of global boiling." The UN chief's call comes amidst a "cruel summer" characterised by scorching heatwaves across the Northern Hemisphere, inflicting untold hardship on communities and ecosystems.

The extreme impacts of climate change are unfolding with alarming speed, exceeding the predictions and warnings of scientists. Guterres points an accusing finger at the fossil fuel industry, urging them to take responsibility and act in the face of the crisis, rather than prioritising profits over the planet's well-being.

🌊🌡️ Meltdown Alert: Greenland's Largest Glacial Floating Ice Retreats 42% as Global Warming Takes Toll 🧊🔥

Greenland's icy landscape is undergoing a dramatic transformation, with accelerated melting observed over the past few decades, resulting in a concerning rise in sea level. In a recent study published in The Cryosphere, researchers focused on Nioghalvfjerdsbrae glacier, commonly known as 79NG, one of the three glaciers with a remaining floating tongue—a portion of ice attached to a glacier that extends into the sea.

The findings are alarming—since 1998, the ice tongue has thinned by a staggering 42%, with an average ice thickness loss of 38 meters since 2018. The study serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for decisive action to address the global climate crisis, safeguarding the delicate balance of Earth's climate and protecting the environments and species that rely on it.

As the icy giants of Greenland continue to shrink in the face of warming temperatures, one question looms large: How can we rally together to stem the tide of this unfolding environmental crisis and ensure a sustainable future for our planet?

🌊🎨 The Shifting Hues of the Oceans: Climate Change Alters Ocean Color and Ecosystems 🌡️🌊

A new study published in the journal Nature reveals a striking finding: the colour of our oceans is changing due to the impact of climate change. The study, conducted by researchers from the UK- based institutions, delved into the global trends of ocean ecology indicators, revealing that over 50% of the world's oceans have experienced colour changes.

But what makes the oceans colourful in the first place?

Typically, the oceans appear blue or navy blue due to the absorption and scattering of light. However, when water is not deep or clean, its colour can vary. Phytoplankton, microscopic marine algae containing chlorophyll, absorb sunlight for photosynthesis, reflecting green light.

As the colour of the ocean changes, we witness the transformations in plankton communities that will have cascading effects throughout the marine ecosystem.

How can we take decisive action to safeguard these vital ecosystems and preserve the delicate balance of life in our seas? 🌍

🍃Climec Labs in Spotlight

This week, Climec Labs was recognised by the Ministry of Education to showcase our products at the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Sangham! Held on 29th and 30th July 2023, at ITPO, New Delhi, this 2-day event gave us a platform to spread awareness about our mission of reverting the damage caused by Global Warming and Climate Change to school children, individuals involved in the decision-making of this country, and the youth of the country alike. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the event.
