Climate Change and Mission Resilience
November is Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Month, which means a lot to me and my colleagues at LMI, where I am part of a diverse team helping the government strengthen its resiliency. Our clients own and manage assets and programs that serve us all, from national security to recreation. I am passionate about helping them identify and quantify the risks and opportunities that climate change and extreme weather events pose to their missions.
The challenge is daunting. NOAA reported that 2019 is the fifth consecutive year where the U.S. has experienced at least 10 weather and climate disasters with losses exceeding $1 billion dollars! Simply put, our clients must invest in climate adaptation now or risk even greater harm later. With our new partner, The Climate Service, LMI uses the latest climate science, models, and projections to help agencies make the right decisions to achieve long-term mission resilience. This partnership is really exciting and I can’t wait to help our clients build a safer and more secure future. It’s so important that we stay vigilant, not just in November, but throughout the year. I am excited to work at an organization that is tackling this challenge head on and helping others do the same.
